About Your Character

Canon Fandom: Phoenix Wright // Gyakuten Saiban
Name: Phoenix Wright
Age: 24
Location: North America, Outer Ring, in a box
Current Occupation: Bum Perpetually Unemployed

AU History: Young Phoenix’s childhood wasn’t all that bad: he had food, shelter, both parents, and was getting an education. For this Outer Ring boy, things looked fairly bright.

Phoenix had, however, a tragic flaw: he was a wimp. Not just sort of a wuss, but a serious, honest-to-goodness crybaby. Bordering on helpless, even. This painted a bright red target on his back for bullies, which the environs of the Outer Ring created quite a few of. A fellow classmate, Miles Edgeworth, had the initiative to step in and stand up for his classmate, which earned him Nick’s instant adoration. A fast friendship soon followed.

Like they say, all good things must come to an end. Sometime in their twelfth year, Miles left with nary a word nor a trace, leaving Phoenix with few good friends and no one to defend him. Fortunately, the boy had toughened up a bit by then, or he might’ve been completely decimated by his harsh peers.

Time moved on. Phoenix suffered the eventual loss of his father, followed in less than a year by the death of his mother. By sixteen he was wholly on his own, not an unusual arrangement for an Outer Ring teen. He did what he had to to survive, gaining a place of residence with some philanthropic friend, and began the hunt for a career. He took whatever job he could find, these usually not lasting for more than a few months. The constant job switching tired him physically and emotionally, and he knew that something had to give or he was going to snap.

Now in his late teens, Mr. Wright decided that his calling in life was helping people. But however could he go about it? He was dirt poor, growing more and more jaded as the days went by, and was very disenchanted with the life he was living. He was suddenly enlightened: before he could help other people, he had to help himself. With this in mind, he quit whatever dead-end job he was currently working, left the home of whatever Samaritan he lived with at the time, and became a bum.

It took him a while to get used to the conditions of his new lifestyle. It was, admittedly, incredibly degrading at first, but Phoenix kept in mind that it was all for the greater good. Once he achieved happiness (both financial and otherwise) he’d be able to help people, and that was what mattered.

A year passed, and then another, and he was growing more and more used to his abject way of life. He had never intended to grow so used to it when things had started out, but it was all so damn easy. He wasn’t yet well enough off to achieve his goals of philanthropy, but he was comfortable. He managed to find a place to live in the attic of a semi-close acquaintance which had all the comforts he could expect, considering his “profession.” It wasn’t much, but it was enough.

By the time he was twenty four, he was fairly set in his ways. But a small, nagging voice in the back of his head still insisted that he do something with himself.

AU Appearance: At an absolutely towering 5’ 9” (that was sarcasm, loves), Nick’s not the most intimidating person you’ll see walking the streets of the Outer Ring. This suits his purposes quite well, seeing as people are less likely to give you free handouts if you’re frighteningly large. He has rather stunningly blue eyes and black, unruly hair, which he tries with varying levels of success to keep out of his face. He often has a bit of stubble on his chin, and equally often he has some artfully applied dirt on all visible skin. Just enough to be tasteful, mind you. As far as clothing goes, he keeps it simple and in a general state of disrepair. In the winter, Phoenix constantly wears a scarf in some horrible color (he changes it up whenever he gets enough money to do so) and fingerless gloves. Whether they were made that way or just had holes worn into them after much use is up for debate.

Nick’s become an ace at appearing inconspicuous when he wants to, and, after years of bumming it up, he’s adopted a terrible habit of not looking people in the eyes. It can give the impression that he’s antisocial, but he’s not, mun’s promise!

Canon Personality: With a few exceptions, Phoenix is an all-around good guy. He’s exceedingly loyal to friends, and tries to see the best in people. Here he sometimes encounters a problem, considering the world he lives in. Still, he tries to appear optimistic even when he isn’t actually feeling so. He can sometimes bumble in awkward situations, but usually comes out on top in spite of this. He’s got an overly large supply of wry comments and general sarcasm, but he tends to keep these to himself. What a tragedy for the world as a whole.
